The seeker is he who is in search of himself.

Give up all questions except one: ‘Who am I?’ After all, the only fact you are sure of is that you are. The ‘I am’ is certain. The ‘I am this’ is not. Struggle to find out what you are in reality.

To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not.

Discover all that you are not — body, feelings, thoughts, time, space, this or that — nothing, concrete or abstract, which you perceive can be you. The very act of perceiving shows that you are not what you perceive.

The clearer you understand that on the level of mind you can be described in negative terms only, the quicker will you come to the end of your search and realize that you are the limitless being.

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj gave indications about our true being by using words like ‘go beyond’, ‘the limitless’, ‘the eternal’, ‘the effortless, natural and highest state’ and transcend the ‘I am. He was pointing to the ‘Parabrahman’ (Absolute)

The sages of all wisdom traditions direct you in one way or another to ‘Know Thyself’.

Maharaj said, my Guru pointed out to me that originally I had nothing to do with all this and all I have with which to solve this mystery of life is the knowledge ‘I am’, without that there is nothing. So I got hold of it (‘I am’) as my Guru told me, and then I wanted to find out how this body aspect came about without my knowledge and how alone on that any other knowledge come about.

The Ashtavakra Gita points the way:

Right and wrong, pleasure and pain, exist in mind only.

They are not your concern.

You neither do nor enjoy.
You are free.

You are the Solitary Witness
of All That Is,
forever free.
Your only bondage is not seeing This.

The thought: “I am the doer”
is the bite of a poisonous snake. To know: “I do nothing”
is the wisdom of faith.
Be happy.

A single understanding:
“I am the One Awareness,” consumes all suffering
in the fire of an instant.
Be happy.

You are unbounded Awareness— Bliss, Supreme Bliss–
in which the universe appears
like the mirage of a snake in a rope. Be happy.

– (Ashtavakra Gita)

The Ashtavakra Gita is an ancient spiritual document of great purity and power. Pure, because it is relentlessly one-pointed.

Sri Ramana Maharshi said

  1. Unless Reality exists, can thought of it arise? Since, devoid of thought, Reality exists within as Heart, how to know the Reality we term the Heart? To know That is merely to be That in the Heart.
  2. When those who are in dread of death seek refuge at the feet of the deathless, birthless Lord Supreme, their ego and attachments die; and they, now deathless, think no more of death. – (Ulladu Narpadu .. Reality in 40 Verses by Sri Ramana Maharshi)

Jesus explained this in  Matthew 11:27, “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Bart Marshall in his book , “Christ Sutras” The Complete Sayings of Jesus from All Sources Arranged into Sermons (p.11) explains Jesus’s point in the following manner:

“He Who Is, is ineffable. No principle knows him, no authority, no subjection, nor any creature from the foundation of the world until now, except he alone, and anyone to whom he wills to reveal himself through him who is from Infinite Light. Forevermore, I offer this great Salvation.

So we can go beyond beyond beyond as Buddha said

Can you see the face of Buddha within the snowy peak? ‘Go Beyond Beyond’

“Stop thinking, and end your problems.
What difference between yes and no?
What difference between success and failure?
Must you value what others value,
avoid what others avoid?
How ridiculous!

Other people are excited,
as though they were at a parade.
I alone don’t care,
I alone am expressionless,
like an infant before it can smile.

I am different from ordinary people.
I drink from the Great Mother’s breasts.”

― Lao-Tzu, Tao Te Ching

The clearer you understand that on the level of mind you can be described in negative terms only, the quicker will you come to the end of your search and realize that you are the limitless being. – Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Remember what Jesus said in the Gospel of Thomas:

(108) Jesus said: He who drinks from my mouth will become like me, and I will become like him, and the hidden things will be revealed to him.
